At Healthy Pets Veterinary Care, we stress the importance of wellness visits to make sure your pet continues to live a happy and healthy life. Keeping up to date with regular visits can help catch potential problems before they become more serious – and even prevent them from happening altogether!
Vaccines
Vaccinations will typically start just six to eight weeks after your pet’s birth and continue through the rest of their life. They are essential for keeping them healthy and away from life-threatening diseases. We offer both core and non-core vaccinations. These will include rabies and parainfluenza for dogs, plus panleukopenia and feline calicivirus for cats.
Heartworm Test
Mosquitoes carry heartworms; without proper precautions, they can be life-threatening to your pet. To keep your pet safe, they must have heartworm testing before getting a refill for their preventatives. Even if you give them their medication, we can all make mistakes and forget, or your pet might spit them out without you even noticing. The heartworm test is simple and lets us know if they have become infected.
Fecal Testing
Fecal testing will allow us to discover if your pet has been infected with intestinal parasites. If they are, we will prescribe the appropriate medication to eradicate them. Some of these parasites include:
- Hookworms
- Roundworms
- Coccidia
- Tapeworms
- Whipworms
- Giardia
Semi-Annual Appointments
As opposed to annual appointments, we recommend semi-annual appointments. A pet ages a lot faster than humans, so while going to the doctor once a year might be enough for us, there’s a lot more that can change in your pet’s life during that same year.
Annual Bloodwork
With annual bloodwork, we will be able to catch diseases early and give you treatment options based on the results. Having this completed every year could save your pet’s life from something that can easily be treated with the right medications.
Flea, Tick, and Heartworm Medications
At Healthy Pets Veterinary Care, we provide you with preventative medications that you’ll give to your pet once per month. They’ll protect them from heartworms and the diseases that can be transmitted from fleas and ticks. All of these are very common in South Florida due to the humidity and warm weather.
We proudly carry Heartgard as our heartworm prevention due to its safety and efficiency. We also offer alternative heartworm preventatives through our easy-to-use and convenient online pharmacy.
